My 10 Most Anticipated Theatre Openings of 2017

While 2016 was a fantastic year for theatre, I really think that 2017 is going to be a superb year full of amazing talent and fantastic new and revived works. There's a lot of shows already slated to open next year so it took me a while to pull this list together, but I am so excited about what I do have down that I could squeal at any minute. Get this year started already!

10 - An American In Paris at the Dominion Theatre

Previews from March 4th, Opening Night on March 21st. Tickets on sale now.

This stunning movie was turned into a lavish Broadway stage musical back in 2014 and this March, it hits the West End. I love a good dance musical!

9 - 42nd Street at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane

Previews from 20th March, Opening Night on 4th April. Tickets on sale now.

I love the score from this show a lot, but I've never actually seen it on stage before (shocker!). I can't wait to see this huge and expensive new revival in the Spring.

8 - The Wild Party at The Other Palace

Previews from February 13th, Opening Night February 20th. Tickets on sale now.

I won't lie to you: I was disappointed that this was the LaChiusa version of The Wild Party as opposed to the Andrew Lippa one, but I love it nonetheless and cannot wait to see Frances Rufelle take to the stage in this newly refurbished theatre.

7 - Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theatre

Previews from November 2017. Tickets on General Sale from January 30th.

Does this show even need an introduction?! I can't wait to finally get to see what all the buzz is about when it hits town in November. Will London implode with this and Harry Potter?!

6 - My Country; a work in progress at the National Theatre, Dorfman

Performances begin February 28th. Tickets on sale now

This is a play about Brexit told in the verbatim words of British people and the poetic words of Carole Ann Duffy... that is literally a recipe for perfection, I swear.

5 - The Glass Menagerie at the Duke of York's Theatre

Previews from January 26th, Opening Night February 2nd. Tickets on sale now.

My favourite Tennessee Williams play (and one of my favourite plays of all time) is returning to London and directed by John Tiffany?! The play transfers following its Tony-nominated Broadway run starring Cherry Jones who comes to London with the play.

4 - The Ferryman at the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs, Royal Court

Previews from 24th April, Opening Night on May 3rd. Tickets are sold out.

Sam Mendes and Jez Butterworth? Yes please! The run at the Royal Court is already sold out but a West End transfer to the Gielgud is basically confirmed for the Summer, too. Woop!

3 - Follies at the National Theatre, Olivier

Previews from Autumn 2017. Tickets on sale TBC.

Imelda Staunton and Janie Dee in one of Sondheim's greatest works ever? Yes. Yes. Yes. Sign me up right now please. Oh, and it's at the National, so double win!

2 - Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? at the Harold Pinter Theatre

Previews from February 22nd, Opening Night on March 9th. Tickets on sale now.

This is my favourite play ever written and Imelda Staunton is my favourite actress on this planet. I am so excited for this, I already booked to go on my 18th birthday... no shame.

1 - Angels in America at the National Theatre, Lyttelton

Previews from April 11th, Opening Night on April 20th. Tickets on General Sale January 20th.

Like Who's Afraid, this is one of my top five favourite plays ever written anyway so the fact that there was going to be a Marianne Elliott-directed NT revival got me excited enough. But then they cast names like Andrew Garfield, Nathan Lane, Russell Tovey and Denise bloody Gough!? Oh. My. God.
