My 2014 Tony Awards Predictions

Since I am not (yet) an American or a frequent Broadway visitor, I find myself watching most exclusive-to-Broadway musicals through a YouTube video that was created by a rebellious bootlegger, or by simply reading through countless reviews and opinions on shows. Though this makes making my guesses and predictions at awards season very difficult, the Tony's are due to hit the airwaves in a little over two weeks time and I thought I'd share with you my thoughts on who should be taking home an award from an across-the-pond perspective...

  • Best Play to Act One
  • Best Musical to Beautiful: the Carole King Musical
  • Best Revival of a Play to The Cripple of an Inishmann
  • Best Revival of a Musical to Violet
  • Best Book of a Musical to Woody Allen for Bullets Over Broadway
  • Best Original Score to Jason Robert Brown for The Bridges of Madison County
  • Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role of a Play to Chris O'Dowd for Of Mice And Men
  • Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role of a Play to Audra McDonald for Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill
  • Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical to Neil Patrick-Harris for Hedwig and the Angry Inch
  • Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical to Idina Menzel for If/Then
  • Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play to Stephen Fry for Twelfth Night
  • Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play to Anika Noni Rose for A Raisin in the Sun
  • Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical to James Monroe Iglehart for Aladdin
  • Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical to Linda Edmond for Cabaret
  • Best Costume Design of a Musical to Arianne Phillips for Hedwig and the Angry Inch

This obviously isn't a complete list of everything that is awarded at the Tony's because I can't exactly give my opinions on Best Lighting and things like that, but you can find a full nominations list here.
